The Nevada County Office of Emergency Services has expanded its forest-management staff and accelerated wildfire mitigation projects following a $229,106 grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy. The funding allowed the county to hire a full-time forest management advisor and develop a five-year project pipeline focused on high-fire-risk zones identified in the updated Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Current efforts include fuel reduction along key evacuation routes near Stampede Reservoir, Grass Valley, and Woodpecker Ravine, as well as new agreements with the Tahoe National Forest to treat over 1,700 acres. Additionally, a separate $1 million grant secured in March 2026 will fund specific protections for the town of Washington, one of the region's highest fire-risk areas.
