911 Nurse Navigation Program Activated in Merced County
A 911 Nurse Navigation program, developed by American Medical Response and tested in Stanislaus County since June, was activated in Merced County on Wednesday. The program connects eligible 911 callers to nurses who assess whether care can be directed to urgent care clinics, healthcare providers, telehealth services, or home care instead of dispatching ambulances. Since its Stanislaus County launch five months ago, more than 1,200 callers qualified for nurse consultation and several hundred received care without visiting a hospital emergency department. In Merced County, one in four adults report barriers to accessing healthcare when needed.
