McFarland Early College Model Selected as Statewide Blueprint with $10M Investment
California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian announced a $10 million Early College Demonstration Initiative that will use McFarland High School's program, created in 2019, as a statewide model. The initiative designates McFarland as the McFarland Early College Hub, a technical assistance center helping other schools develop early college programs. Students at McFarland can earn an associate degree before receiving their high school diploma, saving families approximately $20,000 per student in travel, registration, and material costs. Pilot expansion districts include San Diego, Tehachapi, and Wasco.
