State Mussel Fee Sticker Rises to $42; Lake County Boaters Must Also Carry Separate $20 Sticker
California State Parks' Division of Boating and Waterways increased the state mussel fee sticker to $42 for a full two-year cycle, effective Oct. 22, up from $16, implementing Assembly Bill 149's revision to address all invasive mussel species. The increase responds to golden mussels first detected in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in October 2024 and supports watercraft inspections, decontamination, early-detection monitoring and prevention planning statewide. Lake County maintains its separate $20 mussel sticker requirement for boats operating in county waterways. California-registered recreational vessels operated in freshwater must display two current stickers on the hull; law enforcement may cite boaters without them.
