Lander Man Gets Lifetime Hunting Ban After Poaching Conviction
Dakota Jordan of Lander pleaded guilty to eight wildlife charges for the illegal taking of deer, elk, and one moose, with some incidents dating back to 2021. Judge Jefferson Coombs sentenced Jordan to 96 days in jail, an $18,000 fine, confiscation of vehicles, weapons, and wildlife parts, and a lifetime revocation of hunting and trapping privileges in Wyoming, which also applies in all 49 other states under the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact. The multi-year investigation involved nearly every game warden in the Lander Region, WGFD wildlife investigators, High Plains Power employees, and the Fremont County attorney's office, using DNA evidence from headless carcasses matched to elk ivories seized during a search warrant on Jordan's property.
