DOJ Demands Fresno County Identify Non-Citizens on Voter Rolls by Sunday Morning
The Trump administration's Department of Justice delivered a letter Friday morning to Fresno County Registrar of Voters James Kus, giving county officials 48 hours until Sunday morning to provide personal information on 670 registered voters suspected of not being U.S. citizens and to segregate their ballots pending verification. The letter, signed by US Attorney Eric Grant for the Eastern District of California, threatened criminal prosecution for non-cooperation. Kus confirmed receipt but cited existing laws requiring verifiable information before removing any voter. Separately, the DOJ announced charges against 28 non-citizens who allegedly voted in recent elections, three of whom live in Fresno County. Fresno State political science professor Lisa Bryant urged voters to verify their registration status and use official ballot dropboxes rather than mail.
