Former University of Missouri-Kansas City Volleyball Player Killed in KC Shooting; Suspect Charged
Rhegan Spiegel, 28, a former University of Missouri-Kansas City volleyball player, was fatally shot near East 42nd Street and Forest Avenue in Kansas City at 11:58 p.m. on Oct. 18. Khyree L. Simmons, 36, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful use of weapon in Jackson County Circuit Court. Court documents state surveillance footage captured a vehicle arriving at the scene before a single gunshot was heard, and police identified the suspect vehicle through city camera footage. Police released an image of the vehicle Wednesday; Simmons turned himself in that day after his mother brought him to authorities. He is being held without bond.
