Dartmouth Provost Resigns After AI Writing Investigation
Dartmouth College Provost Santiago Schnell resigned following a faculty committee finding that he used artificial intelligence to meaningfully alter his writing and was not forthcoming about that use, according to University President Sian Leah Beilock's statement. The investigation stemmed from an August guest column in The Washington Post on AI cheating found entirely written by AI, as well as high rates of AI use detected in his recent publications. A conference commemorating the 70th anniversary of AI research at Dartmouth, titled "What Must Remain Human?", began Thursday in Hanover, New Hampshire.
