Six Noncitizens Charged with Allegedly Voting Illegally in 2024 Election
A Fresno resident and five others from across California were charged with allegedly voting illegally in the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office news release announcing six criminal complaints against noncitizens. Named defendants include residents of Fresno, Hanford, Visalia, Turlock, Vallejo and Sacramento; court appearances occurred Friday (Oct. 30) and Monday (Nov. 2). Prosecutors announced 28 arrests on Oct. 19 amid a federal-state dispute over a list of 20,000 registered voters the administration says might not be citizens. The Trump Administration sent a letter Oct. 23 threatening potential prosecution of Fresno County officials who do not cooperate with federal requests for voter-fraud evidence; critics called it an effort to sow doubt in California elections. If convicted, defendants face up to one year in prison and fines of up to $100,000.
