Grass Valley Council Dissolves Historical Commission, Merges Duties into DRC
The Grass Valley City Council unanimously voted at its Tuesday meeting to dissolve the city's Historical Commission and consolidate its functions into the Development Review Committee (DRC). A single council-appointed historical representative will now participate in DRC meetings on matters affecting historic properties, resources, districts, signs, and preservation efforts. The Nevada County Historical Society is expected to play a role in future preservation issues, with staff planning a six-month follow-up report to the council. Commission members and public speakers opposed the consolidation, arguing it eliminates decades of community education and preservation work. A second reading of the resolution must occur before the changes take effect.
