Woman Arrested After 4-Year-Old Found Dead in Atlanta Townhome
Atlanta police responded to a welfare check Monday night at a gated community in the 3500 block of Cardinal Drive SW and found a 4-year-old boy dead inside the home. Jasmaine Smoak, described as a friend of the child's mother, was arrested Tuesday morning in Wilkes County and booked into the Wilkes County Detention Center. She faces charges of second-degree cruelty to children and concealing the death of another. Authorities used license plate reader technology to locate Smoak after deputies worked with Atlanta homicide detectives. The circumstances surrounding the boy's death remain unclear.
