NYC-Lake Placid Exploratory Committee Begins Talks on 2042 Winter Olympics Bid
A state-appointed Exploratory Committee of more than 90 experts met Monday, Oct. 19, at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan to assess the feasibility of a joint New York City–Lake Placid bid for the 2042 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the committee will spend the next year examining infrastructure, financial models, and local input before determining whether to submit a formal bid to the International Olympic Committee. Lake Placid previously hosted the Winter Games in 1932 and 1980, while New York City has never hosted an Olympic event. Hochul also announced $2.5 million in state funding for permanent tributes in Lake Placid honoring the 1980 U.S. Men's Ice Hockey Team and speed skater Eric Heiden.
