Man Arrested for Alleged Molotov Cocktail Attack on Atlanta ICE Building

A 31-year-old Douglasville man was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at a Cobb County home on federal charges of attempted arson and damaging government property after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at an ICE facility at 180 Ted Turner Drive in Downtown Atlanta. Investigators recovered burned cloth, lighter fluid, a glass bottle, and a lighter at the scene. The multi-agency investigation involved the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, Atlanta Police Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Georgia State Patrol. Authorities have not established a motive or confirmed whether the suspect acted alone.

Atlanta Influencer Indicted for $4M SNAP Fraud Scheme

Mercedes Reshard New, a social media influencer known as "Shawty Dred," was indicted by a federal grand jury on Oct. 7 on 46 counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of aggravated identity theft, and one count each of SNAP fraud and illegal transactions with access devices, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia. Prosecutors allege New controlled more than 350 fake SNAP accounts created with stolen identities between January 2020 and July 2026, diverting approximately $4.6 million in benefits meant for low-income families. The scheme involved obtaining EBT cards mailed to metro Atlanta addresses and applying for his LLC, Shawty Dred LLC, to become an authorized SNAP retailer. New was arrested Oct. 13 and remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
