Wisconsin GOP Candidate Tiffany Cites Zuckerberg Grants for 2020 Election Objections
U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, the Republican candidate for Wisconsin governor, stated in a debate that he opposed certifying the 2020 election results due to concerns over $10 million in grants from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s Center for Tech and Civic Life. Tiffany argued that clerks in Milwaukee and Dane counties improperly advised voters they could claim to be "indefinitely confined" to receive absentee ballots without photo ID. His opponent, Democrat David Crowley, criticized Tiffany’s explanation as inadequate and questioned his reliability for future elections. In 2024, Wisconsin voters approved a constitutional amendment banning the use of private grant money to run state elections.
