Kings County Crop Value Rises 10.8% to $2.58 Billion in 2025
County Agriculture Commissioner Jimmy Hooks reported to the Kings County Board of Supervisors that total crop value for 2025 reached $2.58 billion, a 10.8% increase over 2024. Milk ($763 million), pistachios, and cattle led county agriculture, while fruit and nut returns rose 22%. Processing tomato acreage dropped from 27,700 to about 19,300 acres and cotton fell from 71,000 to 47,000 acres, though higher per-acre production partially offset lower prices. The annual report was dedicated to retiring Supervisor Joe Neves, serving since 1995 as California's longest-serving current supervisor, and Lynda Schrumpf, a 40-year Agriculture Department employee who retired in December 2025.
