Jet Crash Kills Nine on Military Trail Nov. 1; Road Closed for Weeks

A Learjet 60 bound for North Eleuthera, Bahamas, crashed on Military Trail near Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North in Palm Beach County on Sunday, Nov. 1, killing all nine people aboard. The impact struck the road at the entrance to a mobile home park, creating a crater that will keep southbound lanes closed for at least 30 days, according to Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel Flores. About 600 residents of the community behind the crash site were relocated to two county shelters as the site was treated as a crime scene. The county signed an emergency declaration on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, and some nearby residents faced utility and water service disruptions. The NTSB is leading the investigation into the cause; scattered storms were in the area at the time but investigators had not determined whether weather played a role.
