Caltrans presented two safety alternatives for the Highway 99 and Rio Bonito Road intersection to the Biggs City Council on Oct. 13, following 15 broadside collisions over five years. The agency is considering a single-lane roundabout or a traffic signal, with construction expected to finish by fall 2029. Local officials expressed concern that a roundabout might divert heavy truck and agricultural traffic through Biggs streets, potentially endangering residents near an elementary school. Residents can submit comments on the proposed designs via a Caltrans survey open through Dec. 31.
