Beaufort County Man Sentenced to 20 Years for 2023 Apartment Shooting
Bernard "Berney" Garvin Jr., 35, was convicted this week of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime for shooting a woman in the head at the Hilton Head Gardens apartment complex in Beaufort County, South Carolina, in June 2023. Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, finding blood, shell casings, and bullet damage on a parked minivan. The victim was grazed by a bullet after confronting Garvin over an apparent altercation with another woman at an all-day party; she was hospitalized in intensive care for possible brain bleeding. Garvin fired at least four shots per the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office and was arrested three months later in Georgia. He received a sentence of 20 years in prison plus five years' probation.
