Aspen Ski Resort Tests Snow-Saving Blankets to Combat Climate Change
Aspen One successfully piloted the use of insulated blankets to preserve snow piles through Colorado's hottest summer on record. The experiment at Snowmass and Buttermilk resorts resulted in 85% of the covered snow volume remaining intact, with temperatures beneath the mats staying below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Company officials state that this technology reduces the water and energy required for early-season snowmaking. Following the pilot's success, Aspen One has purchased additional blankets to expand the program in future seasons.
