Former Soldier Sentenced to 59 Years for Killing Wife, Hiding Body in Storm Drain
On Friday, former U.S. Army Spec. Zarrius Hildabrand, 24, was sentenced to 59 years in prison for fatally shooting his wife, 21-year-old Alaska National Guard Spec. Saria Hildabrand, on Aug. 6, 2023. Hildabrand was convicted in June of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence but acquitted of first-degree murder. The prosecution alleged he shot his wife after she discovered him cheating; the defense argued the wound was self-inflicted. Authorities said Hildabrand reported her missing, moved her body to a storm drain near their apartment, and assisted in search efforts before the body was found.
